Document Scanner

Our College Prep scoring solution does not require a special scanner. Just about all document scanners can fulfill our requirement to:

·scan black and white

·scan at 200 DPI

·create an individual TIF images of every page scanned

If you are using the colored (red) forms you need to be able to filter out the red color during the scanning process. Please verify that your document scanner has this capability. The industry term is 'Drop Out Red' or 'Filter Out Red'.

Generally, customers use a document scanner that is directly attached to the PC/laptop. Such scanners are available for under $400. When the scanner is directly attached our BubbleScan OMR software can directly interface with it using the TWAIN protocol.

Another, equally effective and increasingly preferred method is to utilize the scanning capabilities of a departmental copier or MFP (multi-function printer). Here, the scanner sends the TIF images to a networked folder that is monitored by our BubbleScan OMR software. As soon as our software detects a new image in the network folder, we process the image and add the data to the scoring spreadsheet.

Some customers scan at multiple locations and save the scanned images into a Dropbox (or similar) hot folder. This too works nicely.

Make sure to install the drivers and software that come with your scanner. BubbleScan OMR software interacts with that software, it does not replace it.
